The EcoIsland Partnership CIC was a community interest company with the broad goal of improving the resilience of, and promoting and achieving sustainability on the Isle of Wight. Launched in April 2011,〔(Isle of Wight County Press - It's Island E Day! )〕 it aimed to make the Isle of Wight region energy self-sufficient and carbon neutral by 2020 through technological innovation and by promoting and providing incentives for social change.〔(BBC - Isle of Wight to be energy self-sufficient by 2020 )〕 Initiatives planned or undertaken by the EcoIsland Partnership CIC include: * addressing the Isle of Wight's energy and heating needs through a mixture of renewable technologies, including solar photovoltaic,〔(Isle of Wight County Press - Sun set to slash Island energy bill )〕 solar thermal, wind, tidal and geothermal power generation, and through the recovery of energy from waste; * coordinating the introduction of smart grid and energy-storage technologies to help to manage the supply and demand issues around renewable power generation, and to aid residents in reducing electricity use and improving efficiency;〔(ITM Power - EcoIsland Agreement )〕 * introducing electric cars and bicycles, and promoting the use of public transport; * supporting local food production through the establishment of a local "food hub", managing the supply of food produced by local farmers to Isle of Wight restaurants, shops and hotels; * incentivising local purchases through a "greenback" discount card.〔(Isle of Wight County Press - Discount for choosing and using Greenback members )〕 * Hydrogen energy storage and vehicle refuelling station.〔()〕 ==Liquidation, fraud accusation and death of David Green.== Ecoisland Partnership CIC went into liquidation in October 2013. David Green, the company's founder and director, was found dead on Monday 7 October 2013.
